Fanwood’s first settlers included the Lenni-Lenape Indians, but the borough later evolved into a beautiful residential community. Wealthy city-dwellers vacationed in this charming, tranquil area. Many built large Victorian homes that still stand today. Like the towns of Cranford and neighboring Westfield, Fanwood was built along the railroad lines of The Jersey Central Railroad. The beautiful stone Victorian structure that once served as the Station House is now the borough’s community center.

Today, Fanwood is a centrally located town in a wealthy, prestigious area of Union County. It’s a quaint community of historic residences surrounded by Westfield, Scotch Plains, Clark, Cranford, Mountainside and Plainfield. Fanwood hosts a population just above 7,100 were the average median household income in the area is more than $100,000. Our festival takes place in the completely renovated Downtown and feature crafts, food, some Retail merchandise, musical entertainment and children’s activities. The business district is adjacent to the train station and has new sidewalks, brick pavers, a town clock and 1880 Victorian lamps.
